Proposition 16: Huge PG&E Power Grab Those with power will do almost anything to hang on to it. That has rarely been seen more clearly than with June 8's hot-ticket election item, Proposition 16, the Electricity Providers Act but better known as and couched in the feel-good title of the "Taxpayers Right to Vote Act". The Act actually has very little to do with taxpayers getting the right to vote on important issues, which basically they already have if they'd think about it, and more to do with one company's profits and power over the market.
PG&E Puts $6 Million More Into Proposition 16 Campaign Pacific Gas and Electric Co. has put another $6 million into Proposition 16, its self-funded ballot initiative that would require the approval of two-thirds of local voters to create new local electricity districts. The latest contribution, reported Friday, brings PG&E's contributions to $34.5 million - the entire amount of reportable donations to the campaign.
What Are They Spraying Us With? - Pt II Could Aluminum, Barium and Other Substances From Stratospheric Aerosol Geo-Engineering Programs be Destroying Eco-Systems around the World? What would you do if you were told that toxic substances being sprayed into the sky are falling to the ground and decimating eco-systems around the world? This very claim, made by concerned citizens outside the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) meeting last month in San Diego, sparked my interest to investigate further.
Right-to-Vote On Desalination Gaining Broad Support The Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD) has been steadily advancing a desalination plant on San Francisco Bay that will cost the public over $400 million. This desalination plant, which would convert Bay water into drinking water, is unnecessary and would double the District's energy use, raise water rates, pollute the Bay, and promote growth and development in Marin County. In addition, the desalinated water could be laced with pharmaceuticals, hormones, pesticides, heavy metals, and other contaminants that are impossible to filter.
First, Kill All the Newspapers... Can't find a Planet downtown? Or even a Guardian, an Express or a Tribune? It's your tax dollars at work. The city of Berkeley's Code Enforcement office is in the process of removing what seem to be most of the "ped-mounts," the stands that hold multiple newspaper distribution boxes, with no prior notice to the publications that have been using them.
Haiti Post-Quake: Devastation, Depravation, Exploitation, and Oppression Mathaba Analyst Stephen Lendman will not let the suffering of Haiti and the U.S. occupation of Haiti remain unchallenged Two and half months post-quake, the major media mostly ignore Haiti, the calamitous conditions on the ground, and the growing desperation of millions forced to largely endure on their own - out of sight, mind, the concern of world leaders, and UN, USAID and other aid organizations diverting most of the $700 million + donated to contractors and profiteering NGOs.
